A teenager has been charged in a fatal shooting that happened in March outside a smoke shop in north Wichita.
A hearing was held for 18-year-old Tyree Jackson, and he is charged with two alternative counts of 1st degree murder, criminal discharge of a firearm, and criminal possession of a weapon by a convicted felon. His next court date is scheduled for September 26th, and his bond was set at $1 million.
The alternative charges would allow prosecutors to present two theories on how the crime was committed. A jury could convict on both counts but sentencing would only apply to one of them.
Jackson is charged in the shooting death of 20-year-old Jaden Wilson, who was found on March 21st outside a car near 21st and Grove. He died of several gunshot wounds.
A charge of first degree murder has also been filed against 41-year-old Tyree Jackson, Sr. in connection with the case. Police said the shooting was the result of an ongoing dispute.
