Boeing says it’s ready to renegotiate after its workers voted to go on strike.

About 30,000 workers at the airplane manufacturing plants in Seattle and Portland rejected the Boeing contract offer on Thursday and voted to walk out at midnight. The strike is halting production of the Boeing jet and has sent company shares tumbling four percent in U.S. pre-market trading.

Union leaders had given their approval to the contract, but it was rejected by roughly 95-percent of union members.

In a statement, Boeing said “The message was clear” that the tentative agreement was not acceptable to the members, and they are “ready to get back to the table” to reach a new agreement.
