A section of Interstate 70 was closed for several hours Wednesday in northwest Kansas so crews could demolish a bridge over the highway.
The interstate was closed from Grainfield to Wakeeney in Gove and Trego counties to allow for the demolition of the 150 Avenue Bridge near mile marker 117. Traffic was detoured around the area until cleanup work was completed.
The Kansas Department of Transportation closed the bridge in March 2024 for safety reasons after it was hit a number of times by trucks carrying above-height loads. Plans are in development for replacement of the bridge.
