The Kansas Bureau of Investigation is looking into an officer-involved shooting that happened Thursday in Coffeyville.
The KBI said officers made a traffic stop on a pickup early Thursday afternoon, and they found that the driver, 33-year-old Derik Trotter, was involved in an active investigation. A struggle broke out when officers tried to take Trotter into custody, and two officers fired Tasers. Another officer then fired shots, striking Trotter. He died later at the Coffeyville Regional Medical Center.
Officers were trying to serve a search warrant for items in Trotter’s possession.
The KBI will investigate the shooting and present findings to the Montgomery County Attorney’s Office.
