The U.S. District Court Clerk’s Office in Wichita is warning area residents of a jury service scam that has been targeting citizens.
The Clerk’s Office said thousands of dollars have been lost to fraudsters. In a statement issued Friday, The Clerk’s Office said
The court will NEVER contact a person by telephone or email and demand payment of a fine to avoid being arrested for failing to appear for jury service. Never purchase gift cards or bitcoin because you are told you will go to jail if you do not pay. This is a sure sign of a scam. Hang up immediately and call your local state or federal court clerk’s office to verify the status of jury service.
Similar scams have been reported by state and federal agencies in recent years.
