A former assistant tennis coach at Wichita State University has been formally charged with child sex crimes.
A hearing was held Monday for Max Wheeler, and he has been charged with three counts of aggravated indecent liberties with a child, one count of indecent liberties with a child, two counts of electronic solicitation, and other charges. Prosecutors said the victim in the case is between 14 and 16 years of age.
Wheeler was arrested earlier this month. WSU officials said he had worked with the athletic program in a temporary, limited position, but he had not been associated with the university since April and he is no longer with the tennis program.
