Sedgwick County Commissioners have approved the annual solid waste fees that will be assessed in 2025.   The fees are charged with the annual property tax bills and the revenue is used to fund household hazardous waste operations, special disposal projects, and the costs of planning and administering solid waste collection across the county.

The fees are based on property classifications and they have been restructured for 2025:

Base Residential (each dwelling unit) $5.00
High Density (HD) Residential (each dwelling unit) $4.00
HD Residential with Additional Use (each dwelling unit) $6.25
Commercial & industrial parcels (including ag)
Tier 1 (each parcel) $15.63
Tier 2 (each parcel) $31.25
Tier 3 (each parcel) $62.50
Tier 4 (each parcel) $250.00
Tier 5 (each parcel) $500.00

County Commissioner Jim Howell said the fees are being rebalanced next year and most residential properties will see a reduction of around $3.38.

The programs planned for 2025 include continuation of the Bulky Waste Coupon Program, where residents can dispose of up to 1,000 pounds for free at the transfer stations and a new coupon program for mattresses and box springs. Additional programs include a Waste Tire Collection event for residents and government only; continuation and expansion of the MedSafe drop-off box program at participating law enforcement stations in the County; the Christmas tree recycling program; five Household Hazardous Waste remote collection events; special clean-up events (including townships, improvement districts, notice-of-violation cases, and hoarding cases); and clean-up of storm events as needed.
