Today we honor Vietnam Army Veteran Pat Sajak. Sure, Robin Williams made famous the role of a Vietnam War DJ in the movie, “Good Morning Vietnam”, but it was Pat Sajak who lived it. Pat recalled that he wasn’t the first to speak those words, that was Adrian Cronauer, who Robin Williams played, however they soon became Pat’s.  He said he was an Army Spc. 5th class who had joined the service, been trained as a clerk typist, was sent to Vietnam as a finance clerk. After repeated attempts, I had been transferred to Saigon to be a disc jockey, as I had been in civilian life. The Army can work in mysterious ways. It wasn’t until after his service he received the call to host Wheel of Fortune and 41 years, and over 8,000 shows later – he is leaving behind an incredible legacy. One that would put the message “Thank you Veterans” on the famous letter board anytime there were Veterans who stopped by for a taping of the show. Thank you Pat for being a part of our nightly lives and THANK YOU for your service.
