Sedgwick County officials said Monday that rehabilitation work has been completed on a major traffic bridge in northwest Wichita.

Work began last September on a $2.7 million project for the bridge on Zoo Boulevard over the M.S. “Mitch” Mitchell Floodway, known as The Big Ditch.   County officials said the project was completed ahead of schedule and it was $200,000 under budget, mainly because the underlying deck was in better shape than expected.   The project was important for preserving the integrity and safety of the bridge.

There were lane closures and traffic delays during the construction.  Around 32,000 cars travel over the bridge each day.
