A former Wesley Medical Center employee has been charged in an investigation into the nationwide trafficking of human remains.
The U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Middle District of Pennsylvania has charged 39-year-old Angelo Pereyra of Wichita with interstate transport of stolen goods.
Prosecutors said Pereyra and a Pennsylvania man caused human remains to be transported between Kansas and Pennsylvania. Wesley Medical Center says the hospital assisted in the investigation, and Pereyra was terminated.
The U.S. Attorney’s Office said several defendants have been charged in a multi-year investigation into the nationwide trafficking of stolen human remains. Three have entered guilty pleas in Pennsylvania. Another defendant has been charged and convicted in Arkansas.
