Tornadoes caused damage in rural areas of south central and southeast Kansas over the weekend, and a number of roads were closed after heavy rains caused flooding.

A tornado damaged a barn in Cowley County on Saturday afternoon, and there were five separate reports of tornadoes in Elk County with damage reported to outbuildings, trees and power lines.

Flooding closed roads and highways near Fredonia, Neodesha, Fort Scott and other communities.    The city of Elk Falls, in Elk County, reported some area roads closed but no major storm damage.   Most roads reopened by Monday morning.   Flooding was also reported near Iola, in Allen County.

Grenola, in Elk County, reported 4.37 inches of rain from the weekend storms.  Dexter, in Cowley County, had 3.95 inches, while Cedar Vale in Chautauqua County had 3.65 inches.    Wellington in Sumner County reported 1.66 inches of rain, while Mulvane had 1.20 inches.   Wichita reported 95 hundredths of an inch.
