The wildfire in the Texas Panhandle is now the largest in the state’s history. The Smokehouse Creek Fire has burned over one-million acres and is only three-percent contained.
Texas A-and-M Forest Service said the blaze has combined with another wildfire as well. There were as many as 23 separate wildfires covering more than a million acres across the state as of early Thursday morning. Two people have been killed as a result of the fires.
Texas has raised its fire preparedness level to three, which means outside help from other regions or states may be required to fight the flames.
