Kansas Corrections officials are investigating the death of an inmate from Sedgwick County at the Lansing Correctional Facility.
Local hospital staff pronounced 28-year-old Kaydin Varland-Hazelton dead on Sunday. An autopsy will be conducted but corrections officials said a preliminary assessment found that the death was not related to COVID-19.
Varland-Hazelton was serving an 84-month sentence for several convictions of drug possession and one count of battery in Sedgwick County.
The death will be investigated by state corrections officials and the Kansas Bureau of Investigation.
