A Wichita man is dead after a SWAT team was called to a standoff in south Wichita early Thursday.

The Kansas Bureau of Investigation has identified the man as 43-year-old Larry Armour.

Police were called to a domestic violence incident with a possible robbery around 10:30 Wednesday night in the 100 block of South Ridge Road.  They found that a man had stolen a vehicle at knifepoint from his roommate.  The stolen car was seen about an hour later at Bayley and Schweiter, and police began a chase that ended near Harry and Green.  The man forced his way into a home in the 2400 block of East Harry.

Police began negotiations with Armour and a SWAT team was called to the home with Sedgwick County deputies also responding.   The KBI said a deputy looked through a window and saw Armour standing over the resident with a large knife and shouting that he would kill him.  The deputy fired one shot, striking Armour.  EMS took Armour to a hospital but he was pronounced dead a short time later.  The resident of the home was taken to a hospital for evaluation, but he was not injured.  No law enforcement officers were injured during the incident.

The KBI will investigate the shooting and present a report to the Sedgwick County District Attorney for review.

Harry was closed in both directions between I-135 and Green for several hours as police worked at the scene.
