Exploration Place has received a commitment of $1 million from the Wichita Foundation for a new riverfront amphitheater that will open later this year.
The Wichita Foundation Amphitheater will showcase the nightly Ring of Fire show at the Keeper of the Plains sculpture, and it will host live performances, free family movie nights and other community events.
Exploration Place is planning to open the amphitheater in the fall. It will have a seating capacity of 1,500 people and it will also include a mixed-use space along the river where pedestrians and cyclists can gather safely.
The amphitheater is the first phase in a $22 million project to develop Exploration Place’s 20-acre riverfront property.
