Evergy was dealing with power outages affecting around 160,000 customers across Kansas.

The utility was reporting over 1,300 outages from the winter storm that brought wind gusts up to 55 miles an hour for much of the state.

As of Tuesday evening, Evergy reported around 4,500 customers still without power systemwide.   Crews had 90 percent of the customers restored within 24 hours.

In Wichita, Evergy was reporting a number of outages affecting more than 5,000 customers in the Wichita area, and there were outages affecting around 4,200 customers in and around Hutchinson.  Other outages were reported across central and northeastern Kansas, into the Kansas City area.

Crews have been working to get power restored to customers who are still affected.  Evergy said all available crews and contractors are in the field working on outage restoration. Poor conditions and low visibility are factors that are slowing down the restoration work, so it’s not known when power will be restored.
