The Canton-Galva school district in McPherson County is mourning the death of a teacher after a traffic accident.
30-year-old ag science teacher Ashley Austin started the Canton-Galva FFA program and she is remembered by students and staff as having a meaningful impact on the community and the state of Kansas.
McPherson County officials said Austin was driving to work on December 15th on Highway 56 between Canton and Galva, and her SUV was hit by a car that crossed the center line. She died from her injuries a few days later.
The USD 419 school district had counselors available for students and staff and schools were closed on Thursday. Funeral services are pending in Austin’s hometown of Goshen, Indiana.
