Sedgwick County EMS hosted an event Tuesday with a heart attack survivor who was saved by first responders.
70-year-old Ed Gillespie had a major heart attack in September and was not breathing. Paramedics and firefighters worked over 30 minutes to restore his pulse and get him stable enough for ambulance transport. Gillespie spent three weeks in the hospital recovering.
Gillespie expressed thanks to the EMS crews at a meet-and-greet event held at the EMS Administration building. The EMS responders said many heart attack calls don’t have happy endings, so it meant a lot to save Gillespie’s life.
