The Kansas Food Bank has announced a donation of over 100,000 pounds of turkey along with grant funds from Cargill.

The donation announced on Giving Tuesday is part of Cargill’s Honeysuckle White “Guide to Good” campaign, which focuses on providing quality turkey and support to families in need for the holiday season.

This is the 17th year that Cargill has provided holiday turkey for distribution through the Kansas Food Bank and its partner agencies.   Cargill also provided a grant totaling $150,000 to provide agency support to help fill the protein gap.  Around 43 percent of the households served by the Food Bank have at least one member with diabetes, and 62 percent of the households have a member with heart disease, creating a vital need for lean healthy protein foods.

Cargill Cares also announced a matching opportunity to support the Food 4 Kids weekend backpack program.   Cargill will match all donations to the program, up to a total of $100,000.   The program provides weekend meals to chronically hungry children across the Food Bank’s 85-county service area.   More information on the match can be found on the web site kansasfoodbank.org
