Wichita City Council members have given unanimous approval to increases in water and sewer rates for 2024.
The Council is asked to approve the increases each year under a long-range plan to cover the costs of providing services and cover the costs of water and sewer line repair and replacement, along with projects to improve service and capacity. The rate increases are 6.25 percent for water and 3 percent for sewer rates, for a combined rate increase of 5 percent.
The rates will go up an average of $2.40 a month for residential customers who have low water usage, $3.63 a month for mid-level users and $7.68 a month for high-level users. Commercial rates will go up $38.06 a month on average, and industrial customers will see an average increase of $3,525.26.
The rate increases will take effect on January 1st.
