Hall of Fame Coach Bobby Knight Passes Away at 83.

Iconic basketball coach Bob (Bobby) Knight has passed away.  His family made the announcement Wednesday evening.  He was 83. The  the legendary coach won three NCAA championships at Indiana University.

A portion of the family statement read: “It is with heavy hearts that we share that Coach Bob Knight passed away at his home in Bloomington surrounded by his family. We are grateful for all the thoughts and prayers, and appreciate the continued respect for our privacy as Coach requested a private family gathering, which is being honored. We will continue to celebrate his life and remember him, today and forever as a beloved Husband, Father, Coach, and Friend.”

Knight was the head coach at Indiana University for 29 seasons.  He led the Hoosiers to the to the NCAA Final Four in only his second season coaching the program. HIs ‘s first NCAA title was in 1976 when Indiana went undefeated. To this day no other team has accomplished that feat,

Mr. Knight was the youngest coach at a Division I school when he was hired at Army in 1965 at the age of 24.  He also coached the U.S. Olympic team to a gold medal in Los Angeles in 1984. It was the last U.S. amateur team to win gold. Later, Knight would coach at Texas Tech for six years.  He had  five 20-win seasons at Tech which was first for the team.
