Puppies rescued from Valley Center house fire

Sedgwick County firefighters were called to the scene of a house fire in Valley Center.

It began with a 911 call of black smoke in the 6800 block of West Glenda Street.  Crews arrived to find the garage of the home burning.

The homeowner was able to escape safely, but firefighters had to rescue puppies that were inside in the basement of the home.  Crews were able to keep the fire contained to the garage and some attic space and prevented it from spreading into the living areas of the house.

Crews from Colwich and Wichita assisted Sedgwick County units at the scene.  The cause is still under investigation and it’s too soon to determine how extensive the damage to the home is.
