Riverfront Legacy Master Plan designs show options with and without Century II

Multiple designs were shown Thursday evening during an open house for the Riverfront Legacy Master Plan.

The designs include options for keeping Century II, re-purposing the building, or removing it completely.  According to Project Wichita the designs are “a culmination of five months of reviewing previous studies done of the area, along the Arkansas River to Main Street and between Douglas Avenue and Kellogg, as well as public input and market-driven analyses of what could be supported in the area.”

They each include green space, mixed-use space, retail and restaurant space, options for parking that include above and below ground, and a pedestrian bridge across the river connecting to the new ball park space.  Three designs call for the removal of Century II and the creation of an outdoor theater.  One calls for the removal of the blue roof to create an open-air concept theater, while another calls for re-purposing Century II.

Each design has a preliminary cost between $970 million to $1.5 billion.  The final design will be presented to the public in January.
