A man from Valley Center was killed in the crash of a small plane in Missouri early Thursday.
The Clay County, Missouri Sheriff’s Office said the plane went down shortly after 9:30 a.m. in a cornfield just east of Kearney. The pilot was identified as 79-year-old Alan “Doug” Moler of Valley Center, and he was dead at the scene. The plane had just taken off from the Midwest Regional Air Center in Clay County, and it was on a flight to Wichita.
There’s no word on the cause of the crash, but law enforcement officials said the plan hit power lines as it descended. The twin-engine Piper aircraft had just refueled before takeoff.
