Kansas Governor Laura Kelly has issued a declaration of disaster emergency for Ford County because of wildland fires that broke out Thursday. The declaration will allow the state to position resources to help in the response to the fires.
Much of the state remains under drought conditions and there are increased dangers of wildfires due to overheating farm equipment, outdoor grilling and fireworks.
The Kansas Division of Emergency Management is watching the situation in Ford County and will provide resources as needed. The Kansas Forest Service is working to provide aerial support and a district fire management officer has been sent to Ford County.
