Martha Stewart has set the internet ablaze, being revealed as the oldest model for the Sports Illustrated Swimsuit edition at the age of 81.
(excuse me while I stop typing so I can stand up and applaud this move)
- Martha Stewart, an 81-year-old entrepreneur, is the oldest model to have ever graced the cover of the Sports Illustrated Swimsuit issue, proving that age is nothing more than a number.
- On Monday, S.I. unveiled the special cover, which features the TV personality and best-selling author in the Dominican Republic wearing a white one-piece halter swimming suit.
- Martha said, “When I heard that I was going to be on the cover of Sports Illustrated Swimsuit, I thought, ‘Oh, that’s pretty good, I’m going to be the oldest person I think ever on a cover of Sports Illustrated.‘”
- She continued, “And I don’t think about age very much, but I thought that this is kind of historic.”
- She added, “Age is not the determining factor in terms of friendship or in terms of success, but what people do, how people think, how people act, that’s what’s important and not your age.”
- In addition to Stewart, Megan Fox, Kim Petras, and seasoned SI Swimsuit model Brooks Nader were chosen to be the other three ladies on the cover.

“THINK ABOUT GOOD LIVING, NOT AGING”
That is going to stick with me…what an important bit of advice. Let’s redefine age, beauty, the pressures and labels that come with those and lift each other up more than we tear down.
Here’s a little more about Martha and how we got here
Martha Stewart is an American retail businesswoman, writer, and television personality. As founder of Martha Stewart Living Omnimedia, focusing on home and hospitality, she gained success through a variety of business ventures, encompassing publishing, broadcasting, merchandising and e-commerce. She has written numerous bestselling books, is the publisher of Martha Stewart Living magazine and hosted two syndicated television programs: Martha Stewart Living, which ran from 1993 to 2004, and The Martha Stewart Show, which ran from 2005 to 2012.
Stewart was born Martha Helen Kostyra on August 3, 1941, in Jersey City, New Jersey. She is the second of six children born to Edward Kostyra, a Polish-American accountant, and Martha Ruszkowski Kostyra, a Polish-American homemaker. Stewart grew up in Nutley, New Jersey, and attended Nutley High School, where she was a member of the National Honor Society. After graduating from high school, Stewart attended Barnard College in New York City, where she studied history and architectural history. She graduated from Barnard in 1962 with a Bachelor of Arts degree.
After graduating from Barnard, Stewart worked as a stockbroker at a small Wall Street firm. She married Andrew Stewart, a Yale law student, in 1961. The couple had one daughter, Alexis, in 1965. In 1987, Stewart founded Martha Stewart Living Omnimedia, a media and merchandising company that focused on home and lifestyle products. The company quickly became successful, and it grew to include a magazine, a television show, a line of home goods, and a website. Stewart served as the company’s CEO until 2004, when she was convicted of insider trading and sentenced to five months in prison.
After her release from prison, Stewart continued to work in the media and merchandising industries. She launched a new television show, The Martha Stewart Show, in 2005, and she continued to write books and publish magazines.
