A Sedgwick County Sheriff’s deputy will be honored in Washington D.C. during Peace Officers Memorial Day.

22-year-old Deputy Sidnee Carter was killed in a crash as she was responding to a disturbance call on Oct. 7th, 2022 at 29th St. N. and 135th St. W. near Maize

Carter’s name will be etched in the National Law Enforcement Officers Memorial in the nation’s capital.

She was with the sheriff’s office for about a year and a half, first working in the Sedgwick County jail before moving to the law enforcement division. Carter graduated from the Law Enforcement Academy in July, 2022.

Another Kansan added to the memorial in Washington, D.C. is former Marion County Sheriff Robert Craft who died in February last year from COVID-19 complications. Craft had led the Marion County Sheriff’s Office since 2008. Prior to that, he served in the United States Marine Corps and worked for the Kansas Highway Patrol

Deputies with the Sedgwick County Sheriff’s Office will accompany Deputy Carter’s family in D.C. A complete list of events in coordination with National Peace Officers Memorial Day and National Police Week 2023 here.
