Wichita State University’s College of Health Professions has announced a strategic initiative with Ascension Via Christi to provide a critical pipeline of qualified health care professionals to the region.
Ascension Via Christi hospitals will provide office and classroom space to the College of Health Professions and its School of Nursing and School of Health Sciences. This will provide more access for WSU students to working health care professionals in a hospital setting. It will provide a way for WSU and Ascension Via Christi to bring more trained people into the health care field and enhance professional growth opportunities for students and current health care professionals.
Wichita State Provost Shirley Lefever said the partnership will connect students with advanced professional opportunities, and it will address the need for qualified health care workers in Kansas. She said it will also establish Wichita as a health care hub for the region.
Ascension Via Christi ministry market leader Kevin Strecker said WSU wants to expand the enrollment capacity of its College of Health Professions, and Ascension officials hope many of those students will choose to begin their career at Via Christi.
