Work begins this summer on a major remodeling and expansion project for a west Wichita library branch.

The Westlink branch at 8515 Bekemeyer will close at the end of the day on Saturday, May 6th.  A year-long project will completely remodel the building and expand it to the south.  The new branch will add community meeting rooms, study spaces, an expanded children’s room and a drive-up window.   The city had several community focus groups in March with the design team to decide on the improvements.

The materials from the Westlink branch will be moved to a temporary location at 7011 West Central, near Central and Ridge Road.   It will open on May 22nd.  Customers who use the Westlink branch as their primary location should return books and other materials to the book drop at the temporary location or to another nearby library location during the transition.

The temporary location will be open from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday through Friday, from 1 p.m. to 6 p.m. Saturday, and it will be closed on Sundays.

The city has more information about the remodeling project at the web site wichitalibrary.org/westlinkremodel
