The Kansas Highway Patrol said two drivers were killed in a five-vehicle crash that happened Wednesday evening on Highway 50 in Lyon County.
The crash was reported around 6:15 p.m. about four miles west of Emporia. Troopers said an eastbound semi went left of center and collided with a car, which spun around and hit another semi. The first semi then continued on in the westbound lanes and hit two SUVs, killing both drivers.
The victims were identified as 29-year-old Ryan Miller of Independence, Missouri and 32-year-old Jacob Suenram of Lawrence, Kansas. They were pronounced dead at the scene. There was a child in the SUV driven by Suenram, but the KHP did not identify the child or provide any information on injuries.
The driver of the first semi, a 46-year-old Marysville man, was taken to a hospital along with two people from the first car that was hit, and they had minor injuries. The other semi driver, a 32-year-old woman from Virginia, was not hurt.
