The Starlite Drive-In theater held its official grand opening Friday night. City Council member James Clendenin says he’s extremely pleased the Drive-In is open. “Actually, people protested for this and when the Mayor and I saw that people were protesting for this, we knew that that meant something,” says Clendenin.
Mayor Jeff Longwell says having the drive-in open improves quality of life for the area. Longwell says, “It’s fun entertainment for the family. Pretty inexpensive to bring a family down here, load them up in the car.”
Starlite Owner Blake Smith says he loves his drive-in and is excited to have it open for business. He says, “It got stange last year — and I didn’t even realize — and then everybody went crazy and it kinda got to me, and…it’s funny how things work out.” He says he’s hoping to hold more events than they have in the past. His property is 26 acres and they are trying non-movie events — like a recent car show.
Smith purchased the Starlite in February. He also co-owns the Admiral Twin Drive-In in Tulsa, Oklahoma.
