Starting today, April 1, you can get up to 6% beer at grocery stores and gas stations.

Previously in Kansas, only 3.2% beer was allowed.

Some restrictions are also being lifted from liquor stores. They will be able to sell non-alcoholic items like mixers and sodas, so you won’t have to make separate trips for rum and Coke. You will also be able to buy ice at liquor stores.

This change does not allow stronger drinks, like wine and spirits, to be sold at grocery stores or gas stations. That is a change Uncork Kansas is working toward.

Local craft brewers are expected to do more business, since their beer can be sold at more locations. This change will also keep suppliers from having to work with two different strengths of what wold otherwise be the same beer.
