Harrison Butker kicked a 45-yard field goal with 8 seconds remaining to give the Kansas City Chiefs a 23-20 win over the Cincinnati Bengals in the AFC Championship game Sunday night. The win sends the Chiefs to the Super Bowl to play the Philadelphia Eagles, who won over the San Francisco 49ers in the NFC Championship earlier in the day.
The field goal was the result of a four-play, 26-yard, 27-second drive led by quarterback Patrick Mahomes. The key play was a 9-yard run by Mahomes to get a first down, then Bengals defender Joseph Ossai hit Mahomes out of bounds to draw a 15-yard unnecessary roughness penalty. That put the Chiefs in field goal range for Butker’s winning kick.
Mahomes completed 29 of 43 passes for 326 yards and two touchdowns.
The Chiefs and the Eagles will meet in the Super Bowl on February 12th in Glendale, Arizona.
