Derby High School was evacuated Wednesday afternoon after a grenade was found inside a backpack.
Police said a student reported seeing an image on social media of another student having a grenade at the high school. Staff members contacted the student who had the grenade, and he said it was not live.
Police were called to the school shortly after 2:30 p.m. and the Wichita Police bomb squad was sent to the building, and the school was evacuated as a precaution. Police confirmed that it was not a live grenade, and students were allowed back into the building to get their belongings.
