The Kansas Humane Society is reporting that it found homes or placement for 11,204 animals and had a 94 percent save rate in 2018.   That represents a new record for the agency, which has been in its new building in Wichita for almost ten years.

The Humane Society said its save rate has increased by 50 percent since it moved into the new facility near K-96 and Hillside in 2009.

In a press release, the Humane Society said 8,432 animals were adopted in 2018, and another 1,955 were transferred to rescue partners, 710 animals were reunited with their owners and 107 were transferred to partner shelters.

KHS also reported that it performed 2,281 low-cost, donor-subsidized spay and neuter surgeries to members of the community during 2018.   The agency also expanded its Working Cat Program to help more semi-social and feral cats find suitable placement.  The program finds homes at barns, warehouses, farms and other safe locations for cats that have traditionally been considered as unsuitable for adoption.

The president and CEO of KHS, Mark Eby, said the agency has invested significant dollars to find additional homes for animals by investing in rescue, transport and offering adoption specials.
