The Kansas Highway Patrol said a woman from Cheney and an unidentified infant were killed Sunday evening when their car was struck from behind on Highway 54 in Kiowa County.
The crash was reported around 8:30 p.m. on Highway 54 just west of 37th Avenue. The KHP said a car was stopped in the eastbound lane with its lights off, apparently disabled, when it was hit from behind by a semi tractor-trailer.
The crash killed the driver, 40-year-old Adrienne Deal, a teacher in the Goddard school district. An infant in the car was also killed. The semi driver, a 38-year-old Dodge City man, was not hurt.
The crash is still under investigation.
