Wichita police have identified the man who died after a confrontation with law enforcement officers last week.  29-year-old Geoffrey Morris of Wichita was shot Thursday, January 10th when officers tried to arrest him on a number of warrants.

Morris died Saturday, and his family reported that he had been taken off life-support.

Police said there were warrants for Morris on aggravated robbery, aggravated battery, assault, use of a deadly weapon and other charges.   Officers saw him in a car in the parking lot of the Sedgwick County Corrections Office at 905 North Main around 1 p.m. last Thursday.  As they approached, he put the car into reverse and hit a U.S. Marshal’s vehicle, then he sped forward and almost struck a police officer.   Two officers fired several shots as the car went across Main to the east side and crashed into a concrete fence.

The two officers who fired at Morris are on paid administrative leave while the shooting is under investigation.  Police said the officers are a 13-year veteran of the department and an officer who has been with the department for five years.   They were part of the WPD Violent Crimes Task Force, which focuses on arresting the most violent offenders.
