UPDATE: I-70 reopened around 6 p.m. Tuesday. Traffic cameras in northwest Kansas show snowy conditions, but roads look clear and traffic is moving.

The Kansas Department of Transportation says westbound Interstate 70 has been closed at Oakley because of winter weather conditions in Colorado.  Drivers are urged to delay travel if possible.

Blizzard warnings are in effect as millions of people in the heart of the U.S. brace for a massive winter storm.  The National Weather Service in Denver warned that travel in eastern Colorado will be “difficult to impossible.”

KDOT is urging drivers to buckle up and stay alert for changing road and weather conditions in northwest Kansas.  Snowfall amounts in the northwestern part of the state are expected to range from a trace to two inches.

KDOT officials say more closures may be necessary if conditions worsen.
