The final count from the Kansas Secretary of State’s Office shows Democratic incumbent Laura Kelly winning election to a second term as Kansas Governor.

The numbers posted Wednesday morning have Kelly with 479,875 votes, 49 percent.   Republican challenger Derek Schmidt has 465,620 votes, for 48 percent.   Independent Dennis Pyle finished with 19,753 votes for 2 percent, and Libertarian candidate Seth Cordell had 10,659 for 1 percent.

Schmidt conceded the race on Wednesday, saying that election officials had informed his campaign that it was unlikely that the outcome would be changed by mail and provisional ballots that are yet to be counted.

The final numbers are unofficial until the results have been certified.   The State Board of Canvassers will certify the results no later than December 1st.

Kelly spoke to supporters late Tuesday night and she said “Kansans truly did vote to keep our state moving forward, full steam.”
