A chase involving a man in a stolen truck ended with a double fatal crash in Barton County Wednesday morning.

The driver of the stolen truck is identified as 39-year-old Johnathan Ahlvers, from Halstead. The second driver who was killed is identified as 70-year-old Terrill Underwood, from Medicine Lodge.

The chase began in Pratt County after a truck was stolen from a grain company. Ahlvers was chased to Highway 281, north of Medicine Lodge, where the Kansas Highway Patrol says it looks like he intentionally drove into Underwood. According to a KHP crash report, Underwood tried to avoid Ahlvers by driving off the highway, but Ahlvers still hit him.

The highway was shut down for several hours following the crash.
