The Star Spangled Salute is brought to you by Ideal Feet
Today’s Star Spangled Salute honors 102-year-Old World War II Veteran Romay Davis. Romay was a member of the 6888th Central Postal Directory Battalion. As Allied Troops pushed toward Hitler’s Germany, there were millions of letters and packages in warehouses in Europe, lifelines waiting to find their way to the troops. Romay and her still segregated unit was responsible for getting the mail, and a little bit of home where it needed to be. Just a few days ago, Romay, the oldest living member of that battalion was recognized at an event at Montgomery City Hall that followed President Joe Biden’s decision in March to sign a bill authorizing the Congressional Gold Medal for the unit, nicknamed the “Six Triple Eight.” Thank you for keeping hope and mail moving Romay and THANK YOU for your service.
