The Wichita area is expecting triple digit temperatures throughout the week, with dangerously hot temperatures on Tuesday.  A heat advisory will be in effect from 1 p.m. to 8 p.m.

The City of Wichita has announced steps to offer relief to people in need during the hot weather.   Starting Tuesday, residents can ride Wichita Transit buses free, and that will continue through Saturday, July 23rd.  City officials will decide Friday if the free rides will be extended into next week.

The ICT Street Team and the Homeless Outreach Team will be checking on people, passing out cold water and dealing with any medical concerns.  The HOT team will be working to connect homeless people with open shelters and services.

Wichita Public Libraries will be available to provide a break from the hot temperatures.   The Atwater, Colvin and Evergreen Neighborhood Resource Centers will have water and air conditioning for people who need it.  The centers are participating in the Hydration Awareness Month activities sponsored by the Alliance of Overlooked Neighbors organization.

Park and Recreation centers will also welcome the public to cool off.   A list of the centers can be found at wichita.gov/parkandrec    Information on pools and splash pads can be found at wichita.gov/aquatics

People are urged to stay indoors as much as possible, drink plenty of water and make sure that pets have access to shelter and water.
