The Wichita Public Library is starting a program that will offer eCards to middle school and high school students.  The program is being offered in a partnership with Wichita Public Schools.

Parents and caregivers of students can opt-in for the card, which will allow students to access the Library’s collection of eBooks, audiobooks and research databases.  The card will give students access to a number of services:

·         Book-A-Librarian

·         Borrow eBooks, audiobooks and digital magazines

·         Computers, printing and Wi-Fi at all Wichita Public Library locations

·         Online databases

·         Test proctoring

Gil Alvarez with USD-259 said parents can opt-in during the enrollment process.  This will allow the student’s school ID to serve as their library card.  A student can log into the rapid ID portal and look for the Wichita Public Library icon and then access the materials that are available for electronic checkout.   Alvarez said access to quality reading and research material “will be a game-changer for our students.”

Students with an eCard will not be able to borrow physical materials from the library.  They will have to go to a library location with an adult 18 and older to register for a borrower’s card.   The eCard will be active until the student graduates from high school.

More information about library cards can be found at the Wichita Public Library web site.
