Kansas Governor Laura Kelly joined Wichita and Sedgwick County leaders Wednesday for a ceremonial signing of a bill that will create tax credits for the aviation and aerospace industry. The signing was held at the National Center for Aviation Training.
The governor originally signed the bill on April 14th. She said he will give aviation and aerospace businesses more tools to recruit and retain talented employees.
The bill creates one tax credit for aviation employees and two tax credits for aviation employers, beginning in tax year 2022. It will encourage more in-state and out-of-state workers to join the Kansas aerospace industry by creating a nonrefundable tax credit for taxpayers who become qualified aviation employees. The bill also provides an incentive for employers to offer tuition reimbursement for employees who further their education in STEM (science, technology, engineering and math), by providing a nonrefundable tax credit for tuition at a qualified program.
