Threats cause lockdowns at two Kansas high schools

Lockdowns were put in place at two Kansas high schools Friday afternoon after threats were reported.

Police in Hays said there was a report of a suspicious backpack in a classroom at Hays High School.   Nothing was found and police determined there was no threat.  It was believed to be a “swatting” call, made to deliberately get police to the high school.

Officials at Russell High School reported an anonymous call reporting suspicious items in Room 50, although there is no such room.  The school was locked down and a search found nothing suspicious.

Officials at both schools said safety protocols were followed to ensure the safety of students and staff.
