Wichita businessman Barry Schwan has been chosen as this year’s Admiral Windwagon Smith for the annual Wichita River Festival. Schwan was “piped aboard” the Windwagon during a ceremony Thursday afternoon at WAVE.
Schwan is the president and owner of beverage distributor House of Schwan, Inc, which has been a major sponsor of Riverfest for its entire run. Schwan said he is honored to be chosen to represent Riverfest in its 50th year.
Schwan serves on the board of directors for the Wichita State University Foundation and the Sedgwick County Zoological Society, and he has also served with the Wichita Regional Chamber of Commerce, the Kansas Humane Society, and the Wichita Children’s Home.
The tradition of the Admiral was established in 1974 for the third River Festival. Schwan is the 48th Admiral.
Riverfest will be held from June 3rd to 11th along the Arkansas River in downtown Wichita.
