A WPD officer is charged with one count of misdemeanor battery and one count of disorderly conduct.
These charges stem from two separate incidents in 2021. On May 14th, the officer was accused of battery against a prisoner. After than, he was moved to an administrative assignment pending the outcome of an investigation. The Sedgwick County Sheriff’s Office handled the investigation to avoid a conflict of interest.
On December 2nd, WPD learned of another incident involving the officer while off-duty at the Eisenhower Airport. Airport police investigated and specifics were not given.
The officer involved has been with the WPD for five years and is on unpaid until an investigation is finished.
