Today, I salute Korean War Veteran John James Scarpino. At the age of 20, John started serving his country as a lineman and communications specialist. It was a role that was crucial for air missions’ communication and safety. For all he did and his time served, the one thing always missing was the medals. The other day, in a poignant ceremony, 72 years after the start of his service, John was finally presented with the medals he earned. The National Defense Service Medal, Korean Service Medal with Bronze Star, and the United Nations Service Medal. Each medal was not just a symbol of his service, but also the weight of the sacrifice. Congratulations on your medals, John, and THANK YOU for your service.
