Today, the AWESOME is in Murfreesboro, Tennessee; Caleb and Ruchala have the big family they have always wanted. How they got here wasn’t necessarily the easiest path, but they wouldn’t change a thing. Their first child, Griffin, was born with a heart condition and required open-heart surgery at only three months old. From those early days, they learned of the children in foster care who face medically complex challenges like their son. They decided that was how they were going to grow. They decided to foster and adopt other children with serious medical needs, starting with a child who eventually reunited with their birth family. Then came Everitt, a boy with epilepsy, uncontrolled seizures, and cerebral palsy, whom they adopted. In 2022, they welcomed Maurice into their family. Maurice required a kidney transplant—and today, thanks to that life-saving surgery, he’s thriving. Creating hope while creating a family THAT’S AWESOME.
