election-day-2

Voters in Haysville have overwhelmingly approved a bond issue for school improvements, but Mulvane voters rejected two bond issue proposals in special elections held Tuesday.

In Haysville, USD 261, voters approved an $80 million bond issue for improvements to buildings and facilities.  In unofficial results from the Sedgwick County Election Office, there were 1,345 yes votes and 455 no votes.

School officials said the mill levy will remain the same and the bond funding will allow for the completion of key projects:

• Roof replacements & repairs to prevent leaks & water damage.
• Upgrades to HVAC systems to improve air quality & energy efficiency.
• Parking lot maintenance.
• Playground improvements.
• Interior finishes as needed throughout the district.
• Improvements to district athletic facilities.
• Addition of a Career and Tech Education Center at Campus High School.

In Mulvane, USD 263, voters turned down two separate bond questions.  One is a $50.3 million bond issue that would provide for safety and security improvements.  In unofficial results from Sedgwick and Sumner counties, the proposal was voted down 885 to 814.

The other ballot question was for a $9.2 million bond issue that would fund a stand-alone Early Childhood Center.  It was defeated 1,013 to 685.
